The Bayrischer Rundfunk (BR) commissioned Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH with the construction of a television SNG for its München Freimann site in December 2013.
The new SNG 3 replaces an old vehicle and will in particular be used as an uplink vehicle during live broadcasts and major events combined with the BR television transmission vehicles.
Fitted with a ND SatCom satellite system, an ATEM video mixer by Blackmagic, a multiviewer by For-A and a Yamaha audio mixer, the SNG 3 based on the Mercedes Benz Sprinter can also be used as video control for mobile productions. The SNG is also equipped with a Clim cool air conditioning system and an Ericsson encoder, which ensure optimum MPEG-4 AVC HD compression.
The power supply of the SNG 3 was paid special attention to: the vehicle must be quickly deployable and versatile, and external power supply interruptions must be tide over without errors. A combination of intelligent power inverter and charger coupled with the latest lithium ion batteries provide the best possible performance level with the lowest possible weight. If the external power supply fails, the system switches to battery operation within 20ms, which allows even critical equipment to continue running smoothly.
In July 2014 the SNG 3 was successfully handed over to the BR.
