German Air Traffic Control

Central Map Monitoring

In late July 2006, the Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH was commissioned by German Air Traffic Control for the project CMM (Central Map Monitoring).

Nationwide central monitoring of all 20 digital Drake/Vitec intercom systems will now be possible with a distributed and fail-safe system and by using custom-made software technologies. The digital intercom system was still monitored with a series of separate systems.

The objective of German Air Traffic Control was to improve operational safety at reduced cost. This is guaranteed through the central, graphic representation of all systems with detailed error analysis and recording as well as several possibilities of remote maintenance.

Based on Linux and largely with the use of open source tools, an agent for this was developed which makes the information to be monitored available via SNMP and HTML. The user surface of the system was realised with a web browser and an SNMP management system. This project is the first one that MCI realised with a larger range of its own software development.

The handing-over to German Air Traffic Control took place in December 2008.
