Media Application and Start-up Centre

New building in Erfurt

In December 2006, the `Stiftung für Technologie, Innovation und Forschung Thüringen´ (STIFT- Foundation for Innovation and Research in Thuringia) placed an order with Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH for lighting and stage technology as well as audio and video technology for the new `Medienapplikations- und Gründerzentrum´ (MAGZ – Media Application and Start-up Centre) in Erfurt.

The main objective and intention of the MAGZ is to promote the development of media in the region of Erfurt. Since the children’s channel of ARD and ZDF (first and second channels of German TV) is produced at the MDR state broadcasting centre in Thuringia and is therefore in the immediate vicinity, it is expected that primarily small to medium enterprises (SMEs) from the production and service sectors for audiovisual media will be established in the MAGZ.

MCI was equipping the three studios and the central technical rooms in the MAGZ (vision control, sound control and central apparatus room) with HD technology. Core systems are Sony HD cameras and vision mixer, Evertz video routing switcher, Lawo mixer / routing system, GVG video server and Focus displays with multiviewer technology as flexible monitor walls.

MCI was really putting the finishing touch to this highly sophisticated project by installing an infrastructure based on glass fibre connections for cross-room cabling. This means that MCI was implementing to the greatest extent possible the “top of technologies” at that time available and, by doing so, was once more providing proof of its innovativeness and high degree of engineering expertise.
