HDTV Control Room 3
NDR (North German Broadcasting) had commissioned Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH as general contractor to plan and install the equipment required for the NDR 3 TV studio/control room in the multiformat-capable SD/HD production complex.
It was the first NDR control room which was used for HDTV productions. The project covered TV technical facilities for the NDR 3 TV studio/control room production complex. The facilities comprised a separate video and sound control room, a separate ingest and recording area as well as the production area for the camera and lighting control room.
The equipment for vision control included a monitor wall with 32 discrete 24” TFT displays. The vision engineer and camera control positions also had individual displays only. Decentralised multi-viewing systems were used for individual function positions in the sound and vision control room. The separate sound control room was equipped with the Stagetec Aurus mixer, enabling 5.1 audio productions throughout. A 96-port Clear-Com intercom system makes communication possible during live operations.
The studio and master control room furnishings were constructed in collaboration with KWOD-Design, a partner of MCI for many years, and were tailor made in MCI’s own workshops. Assembly work began in summer 2008. A trial run was followed by the final handing over to NDR at the end of 2008.
