In February 2008, a Nigerian company commissioned Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH to build the outside-broadcast van for Nigerian radio in Zamfara State.
ProVan, the car body builders, began work on the body of the van in April 2008 after a planning period of only one month. The assembly work was subsequently carried out in May. Assembly and commissioning of the vehicle took place in MCI’s own SNG vehicle garage, in which the express newsgathering van for MCS Thuringia, NDR’s HF OB van 46 and NDR’s satellite newsgathering vehicle SatKa were recently built.
MCI equipped the Mercedes Benz Sprinter 515 CDI KA with professional studio technology. The vehicle is used for newsgathering purposes and for broadcasting simple events. The equipment includes a Seeport mixer and a computer with software for editing reports. A VHF directional transmitter makes live remote reports possible. The broadcasting centre was provided with a receiving point.
The vehicle was tested and approved on the Studio Hamburg grounds on 24 June 2008. The Nigerian Commissioner of Information personally, together with a delegation, was present to accept the vehicle. The van was shipped at the beginning of July 2008.
