In December 2010, ZDF commissioned Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH to completely renew the Television Production 1 in the ZDF capital city studio in Berlin and to convert it to HDTV. At the end of July 2011, the new HD production was handed over to ZDF and went into operation.
As the general contractor, MCI took on the planning, production, delivery, installation, quality control, documentation and start-up operation of a general infrastructure ready for HDTV.
The new direction can produce in HD@1,5Gbit/s standard (720p/50 or 1080i/25) with 16 CH audio (4xAES). However, all the main channel devices have already been laid out for signals of 3Gbit/s.
ZDF HSB Production 1 is connected with the Studios 1, 2 und 3, in which live productions and recordings are made for the ZDF programme. Programmes such as Morgenmagazin, Maybritt Illner, Berlin Direkt, Frontal 21 and Aspekte are produced here.
Central components of the project were a Kahuna 4 M/E mixer by Snell, a 261×270 3G HD-SDI crossbar by Nvision, a Lawo Dallis Audio-KS, Miranda multi-viewer, a Lawo mc²66 audio console and the controller system VSM by L-S-B distributed by MCI.
All the furniture were designed and custom-made in Studio Hamburg’s own workshops.
